Scientific and Laboratory Director (Las Vegas)
Cord Blood America, Inc. (CBAI) is seeking a hands-on Scientific and Laboratory Director. This position overseas, supervises and directs all laboratory and scientific functions in relation to the processing, testing and cryogenic freezing of umbilical cord blood stem cells. The Scientific and Laboratory Director ensures the quality program as defined in the company’s documented processes satisfies the requirements of regulators, including the FDA, and the states of NY, NJ and CA. In addition, this position will also lead a number of scientific initiatives involved in the growth and diversification of business operations and revenue streams.
In return, CBAI offers ground floor growth in one of the emerging sectors of the new economy. The position will be based in Las Vegas at the company’s newly announced laboratory for cord blood processing and storage.
Specific Responsibilities Include:
1. Oversee all laboratory operations, safety standards and compliance to regulatory commissions so that the lab is fully operational at all times, and that all risks are mitigated by further regulation.
2. Oversee all laboratory personnel including, technicians and administrative personnel.
3. Help to Develop Research and Development opportunities and grant generation for potential utilization of research lab.
4. Coordinate all federal, state and local regulatory commissions for the purposes of maintaining a fully operational and complaint facility, while meeting and exceeding the SOP requirements of each commission..
5. Comprise and report to Chief Operations Officer monthly on laboratory utilization rates, expenses, ideas to control cost or increase utilization, including the estimated revenues and expenses of those opportunities.
6. Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization’s laboratory operations and performance.
7. Responsible for the overall operation of the laboratory
8. Ensure that testing, processing and cryogenic systems developed and used for each performed in the laboratory provide quality laboratory services for all aspects of performance.
9. Ensure that the physical plant and environment conditions of the laboratory are appropriate for the testing performed and provide a safe environment in which employees are protected from physical, chemical and biological hazards
10. Ensure that the methodologies selected have the capability of providing the quality of results required for patient care; verification procedures used are adequate to determine the accuracy, precision and other pertinent performance characteristics of the method; and laboratory personnel are performing the test methods as required for accurate and reliable results.
11. Ensure that the quality control and quality assurance programs are established and maintained to assure the quality of laboratory services provided and to identify failures in quality as they occur.
12. Ensure the establishment and maintenance of acceptable levels of analytical performance for each test system.
13. Establish operations standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete on-time delivery.
14. Oversee the development of the organization’s plans and programs in evaluation of long-range planning and regulatory action on operational performance. Foster a unified culture and promotes a process for collaboration, cooperation, sharing of information and mutual teamwork.
15. Monitor utilization patterns of lab services and advises Leadership and other appropriate staff of developing trends in clinical service needs.
16. Establish and maintain lines of communication with internal and external customers in order to ensure a timely response to new clinical service trends and program planning.
17. Ensure operational adherence to currently accepted technical service standards for laboratory medicine
18. Ensure operational adherence to applicable policies and procedure by all technical and operational staff.
19. Participate in the development and implementation of operations budget to ensure compliance with organizational expenditure requirements.
20. Advise and manage all contracts into which the lab may enter.
21. Lead and direct the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
22. Perform other duties as required. Perform other responsibilities as mandated by and any other pertinent local, state or federal regulations.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelors Degree
Systems thinker, capable of process management
Effective written and verbal communication skills including document management.
Experience demonstrating strong organizational skills.
Effective problem solving skills and multi-tasking skills.
Required experience with PC, basic Windows navigation skills, Word and Microsoft Outlook knowledge.
Experience in laboratory environment
Experience working with regulatory agencies, FDA.
